The HNZC 2 Anzac Road project involved the complete overhaul of fifteen HNZC flats in Whangarei. Perched on a high-profile location on the fringe of the Whangarei town centre, this refurbishment involves the internal strip out of all fifteen units and the reinstatement of new HVAC, security and intercom systems along with new bathrooms, kitchens and aluminium joinery. The roof has been re-pitched to correct falls and new roof cladding installed. To bring this building up to today’s HNZC standards, new insulated plasterboard linings have been utilised and complex window details have been designed to reduce thermal bridging from the outside environment. One of the challenges faced and emphasised by the structural designers, was to take special precautions not to disrupt elements of the existing structure, specifically the reinforcing in the blockwork and flat slabs. The block received a full repaint and the grounds were landscaped.
